I grew up on a Northland farm, did my secondary
education in Whangarei and completed a Photolithography apprenticeship in
Auckland. I returned to Whangarei to work in my family’s publishing
business, which published the Northern Advocate, from the early 1970’s until
2000. I started out in a production department and held various management
positions. I managed the company from 1987 to 2000. In 1995 my family sold
the publishing company to Wilson and Horton Limited and I was engaged as
their regional manager in Whangarei. In 2003 I purchased a half share in a
marine and land based electronics equipment supplier, installation and
maintenance business. A little over three years later I sold my shareholding
in that company. Since then I have renovated our older home and sold
insurance. Hilfern Bookkeeping is a new venture using my skills and interest
in business.
I have had long experience in corporate, mid-size
and small companies and maintain a keen interest in people and financial
accounting management and have a very good knowledge of the technicalities
of accounting. I am a methodical and practical person and have an ability
to visualise new concepts and ideas. I have advanced computer skills and
have extensive experience in a number of accounting software systems, as
well as other software.
